Worship

We believe that worship is expression. It’s taking what we know and feel about God, and expressing it, both to Him and to the World. We also believe that people express themselves in a variety of ways. When we think of worship, we often thing of music and singing, but all art is capable of expression.  We want to unleash your creativity and get you thinking about how to express yourself all week long. That’s why we’ll be having weekly worship challenges. We’ll clue you in to the theme of worship for next week, and then turn you loose to find ways of expressing that theme all week long. Here’s how it works:

1. All forms of expression are invited. Do you take photos?  Shoot videos?  Write poetry? Make aluminum foil sculpture?  We welcome it all.
2. Try to be thinking about the theme all week long. You never know when inspiration will strike.  See something that reminds you of our theme?  Snap a picture with your cellphone.  The perfect phrase cross your mind?  Scribble it down on a napkin.  Be open to the worship theme for the week and capture the idea when it strikes.
3. Email us your creative works. Email your pictures, videos, writing, etc to pastorbuhro+worship {at} gmail {dot} com.  (Just take out the spaces and replace the brackets with the proper punctuation.  And yes, the email address is “pastorbuhro+worship”. The plus sign helps us keep track of your entries.)  And yes, you can send pix and flix messages to that email address straight from your phone!It’d be helpful if you’d send them in by Sunday so we can work them into our worship for Tuesday night.  But maybe inspiration doesn’t strike until Monday night.  That’s ok.  Send them any way.  We can’t promise we’ll be able to use everything, but we definitely can’t use it if we don’t have it.

Some rules:

1. Obviously, this is about worship. We don’t promise we will use everything in our Tuesday night services.  We want to use as much as we can, but if it doesn’t fit or distracts from the worship focus, we won’t.
2. Please submit your own stuff. Part about being creative is respecting the rights of other creative people.  That means we don’t steal their stuff to make our own.
3. We need permission from any people that are recognizable in your works. And their parents if they are under 18.
4. All entries become property of Water’s Edge and the Middletown Church of the Nazarene. We reserve the right to post your creative works on the Internet and to use them in worship services.  Everything produced by this challenge will be released with a Creative Commons license so others can use it for worship too.

This week our worship theme is “Mighty to Save.”  We’ll be singing the Hillsong United song of that name, and our worship service will be built around the themes in that song.  We really want to make a video to play while we’re singing “Mighty to Save” so send in your pictures and videos and we’ll put it together. But remember, it doesn’t have to be pictures and video.  Any form of artistic expression are invited.  Email us what you can.  Bring what you can’t with you to service!
