The Descent of the Holy Spirit by Anthony van Dyck
On the day of Pentecost, all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. (Acts 2:1-4, NLT)
Every year the Christian Church remembers and celebrates the event described in the passage above at Pentecost – a feast fifty days after Passover. This celebration reminds us that in the same way, God desires to fill us with His Spirit, equipping us for service in our world.
This year, Water’s Edge will be learning more about God’s Holy Spirit in the season between Easter and Pentecost. On Tuesday nights between April 14 and May 26, we will be learning more about the Holy Spirit – who He is, how He works, and how we are called to respond.
I invite you to watch the introduction to this series in the video player to the right. And then stop back by this site daily as we will be posting daily devotions and prayer guides to help you dig deeper into this subject. Then, if you are a student in grades 6-12, join us each Tuesday night at The Shore and Water’s Edge for teaching on the subject.
